Fall Family Photos. How To Prepare For A Professional Photoshoot
Fall is the season when most people update images on the wall. And for a good reason! Family photo sessions in the fall typically have better weather; it’s close to Christmas for gifts (and cards), plus fall colors add an extra pop to your images. Golden hour, fall memories on your wall are pretty hard to beat
As a Arkansas photographer, I love gearing up for fall photography season. Read on to find out how to make the most of your yearly family photos.
- Timing is everything. Start paying attention to that shift in weather as summer melts into fall. Once the leaves start changing, call me and book that session. I know that I like to plan fall sessions, so chances are I’ve got a session ready for you.
-
Flexibility is essential with any photo session, but it’s especially important for fall family photos. Most of my clients book several months in advance, and I always tell them to keep a larger window of time open around our session, and we will confirm a few days before.
- Why? Location, light, and weather. Fall is beautiful, but predicting how the light will be, what the weather might look like, and where fall colors are the best is tricky. If you want the best conditions for your photos, allow for flexibility in your photography session. Sometimes changing locations or moving a session by 30 minutes can take a session from blah to AHHHHmazing.
- RELAX and BE YOURSELF!! Chances are there are leaves on the ground or a few buds lingering around. I may have you throw leaves up into the air or something similar. Remember, this shoot is all about capturing your family bond and having fun, so let loose and get into the season! No stress allowed. Our sessions typically run 60-90 minutes, so allow yourself the time to be in the moment.
- Wear comfortable shoes and accessories. Since we’re going to be outside, we’ll probably do lots of walking. If those boots look amazing, but kill your feet, bring a comfy pair to walk in. If the scarf looks adorable on Jimmy, but it’s scratches his face and makes him unhappy, it’s better left at home.
